About the station
Highland Media Co-operative Limited was founded in the late 1970s and its licensed radio station, Highland FM 107.1, began broadcasting as 2WKT in 1987. Licensed as a community broadcaster, the station’s philosophy is to cater for local needs, mirror our community’s interests, entertain and inform, as well as to provide opportunities to train local people in radio skills and to provide residents with access to local airwaves. Primarily funded by sponsorships, donations and grants, the station has no paid staff and relies on volunteers for its presentation, operation and management.
About our programs
On air 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Highland FM brings you the friendly voices of the community plus a wide range of music, including classical, contemporary, jazz and country. As a community station, we also have programs for ethnic communities (German, Welsh, Irish and Spanish), Aboriginal programs, religious programs, sport, local news and interviews. Our schedule also includes the BBC World Service overnight from 10.00 pm.
Part of the community
Highland FM broadcasts from studios in the Mittagong area and is owned and operated by Highland Media Co-operative Limited. Broadcasting its signal from a transmitter on Mount Gibraltar, Highland FM serves communities across the Southern Highlands. We always welcome inquiries from groups or individuals in the area who look for support for their local non-profit organisations.
