100% Home Grown, December 2025: The Vocal Muster Christmas Project

Driven by Youth – Performed by Youth

Young people of the Vocal Muster and Bowral High School Choir have worked together to select, perform and record Christmas and inspirational songs for Highland FM for December, for the Vocal Muster Christmas Project. Over the months of October and November, the performers selected songs, rehearsed them, and recorded them live at The Venue. Bowral High School Choir was recorded live at their new performance space, The Theatre. With thanks to Dr Sam Cottell, who rehearsed and accompanied on the recording.

The Vocal Muster helps local youth build performance skills in a fun, safe and supportive environment that fosters confidence, self-esteem and a sense of purpose and belonging. The Vocal Muster provides young people across the Wollondilly, Wingecarribee and Mulwaree Shires with unique opportunities to sing, perform and strut their stuff in a welcoming & enriching environment.

It’s about belonging!

When young people face life’s challenges, finding the right support can change everything. The Vocal Muster is a DGR Charity, operating as a Southern Highlands youth performance and singing organisation dedicated to supporting young people aged between 12 and 18, who find themselves facing difficulties as they navigate mental health challenges, social difficulties, and varying abilities. The Vocal Muster is not a singing academy offering traditional vocal instruction – it’s a safe haven where performance becomes the pathway to confidence, connection, and genuine self-worth.

A community-built program serving young people…

Free performance and singing programs for young people in the Southern Highlands exist because communities, organisations, and individuals throughout Wingecarribee, Wollondilly, and Mulwaree Shires continue to invest in our youth development.

Every workshop delivered, every performance celebrated, and every moment of confidence-building happens because supporters believe that young people facing life’s challenges deserve access to transformative experiences – regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

The success of Southern Highlands creative youth programs demonstrates what’s possible when communities recognise that supporting young people navigating mental health challenges, social difficulties, and varying abilities represents their most important work.

Unlike traditional singing academies that offer instructor-led vocal lessons, the Vocal Muster’s community performance and singing programs provide a safe and nurturing environment where performance becomes the pathway to genuine belonging, confidence, and self-worth.

Now in its eighth year, the Vocal Muster has trained over 280 local youth, held 15 workshops in the last three years, and performed at over 170 community events… and they’re just getting started!
