Australasian Quilt Convention Theme for 2025

Calling all Quilters! Australia’s premier quilting event, the Australasian Quilt Convention announces the 2025 AQC Challenge Theme: “On the Map”. Quilters of all ages, skill levels and from all around the globe are invited to create a 90cm x 90 cm quilt that captures their creative interpretation of the theme.Entrants can submit images of their completed quilts ($30 fee per quilt) at https://aqc.com.au/2025-aqc-challenge/, before Thursday 6th February 2025, for the exciting opportunity to be selected as one of the 30 finalists for 2025.

The Australasian Quilt Convention will return to the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne between April 10 - April 13 2025.

The BGC meet at 2pm on the second Monday of each month (except June and December, when they meet on the first Monday). The BGC are a group of like minded people who love to learn and share ideas and plants. They have a speaker at each meeting talking about something garden related and a trading table. Nafisa @ White Cottage Gallery

Nafisa is one of Australia’s most decorated artists with over 200 prizes and commendations to her name including the Archibald Packers Prize and the Florence Biennale Gold Medal.

In this magnificent exhibition Nafisa showcases an extravaganza of ink and pastel works on handmade papers, rich oil paintings from Tuscan scenes to Australian native birds and wildflowers alongside delicately hand painted porcelain sculptures and nostalgic antique teacups.

Nafisa’s Exhibition at The White Cottage Gallery at Retford Park will be open from 12 September until 7 October, Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Tulip Time 2024 @ Corbett Gardens Bowral

The annual Tulip Time Flower Festival held in Spring in the Southern Highlands, boasts a spectacular display of 80,000 mass-planted tulips and 15,000 annuals in Corbett Gardens, Bowral.

Three events mark the Tulip Time Flower Festival.

Fellowship of Australian Writers Southern Highlands (FAWSH)

The Southern Highlands Branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAWSH) is a non-profit organisation committed to supporting local writers. Their parent organisation is the Fellowship of Australian Writers. They meet on the second Saturday of each month (except January) from 10am to 1pm at Welby Hall and welcome new members. Every month they flex their writing muscles with some fun exercises, recitations and sometimes a guest speaker. They support members with all genres and have informal specialist groups for poetry and prose.

Moss Vale Showground Market

This market is set in the grounds of the iconic Moss Vale Showground, a beautiful location with shady trees and an undercover area, and features many local artisans with handmade craft, jams, relishes, soaps, candles, giftware’s and art. There is live music and the miniature train rides run through market hours. Come down wander through the grounds and grab a coffee, freshly baked breads, street foods, pastries and fresh flowers. The Moss Vale Rotary are often there raising much needed funds via gold coin donation at the main gate and also operate their canteen with Devonshire teas and a BBQ. Market runs on the third Sunday of every month and kicks off at 9am.

Highlands Miniature Railway

The Highlands Miniature Railway runs in conjunction with the Moss Vale Showground Markets. The little ride-on trains will be running from 10am until about 2pm. The railway is situated in the far eastern corner of the showgrounds (the Robertson end). Signs will be out! Fully covered footwear is mandatory for all train passengers. Come along, bring the family and have a great time at the markets and with the model trains. The Highlands Miniature Railway is also looking for new members to run the trains and maintain the track! Djon Mundine @ Friends of Wingecarribee Libraries (FOWL)

Join Friends of Wingecarribee Libraries (FOWL) at their next author event, featuring Djon Mundine who will discuss his book, The Dingo Project. The Dingo Project investigates the spiritual mythology and historical narratives of ancestral dingoes and addresses questions of familial and national forgiveness and Aboriginal connections to country and nature. Bowral Folk Club

On the fourth Tuesday of every month a group of local acoustic performers gather at the Venue in Bowral for a night of folk music and poetry. Every month vintage car owners and enthusiasts in the Highlands gather to talk cars over coffee. They meet on the last Sunday at every month, 8am to 10am. Southern Highlands Australian Plant Society (SHAPS) Monthly Meeting

SHAPS are a native plant garden club with members from all walks of life, some with long experience of growing native plants and others with none. All are welcome. SHAPS get together on the first Thursday of every second month in the afternoons, either at the Moss Vale CWA where the group listens to speakers, buy locally propagated plants and chat over tea, or alternatively an outing is arranged to visit gardens or take gentle bushwalks. Wellness for Women: Meditation, Mindfulness, & Yoga Retreat

The Bowral Classic 2024

The Bowral Classic cycling event is returning for the 8^th year to the Southern Highlands on the 19th and 20th of October. Since the inaugural event in 2016, the Bowral Classic has become a staple fixture in the cycling calendar. Now with three road cycling courses and The Crit to choose from, all showcasing the most beautiful scenery you can experience on two wheels, there is something for everybody. The Event Village at Loseby Park in Bowral will be filled with local bars, food trucks and exhibitor stalls.
