WINGECARRIBEE REMEMBERS

WINGECARRIBEE REMEMBERS

Promoting connections between the local community and our veterans, Wingecarribee Remembers is a month-long exhibition, acknowledging our Vietnam veterans and their 50 years of life post conflict.  From the 6th to the 31st of May, the Moss Vale Civic Centre’s Atrium exhibition space will host artworks and screenings of a documentary video that has been produced especially to accompany the exhibition. The exhibition also features paintings by the multi-award-winning artist, Ben Quilty, alongside diverse Vietnam war artefacts. Quilty was Australia’s official war artist in 2011. Local restaurateur, Nui Dat Charity founder and 2024 Australia Day Citizen Nominee, Vinh Tran, has also contributed military memorabilia and a vehicle from his collection ‘Military Vehicle for Charity Inc.’.

This exhibition is hosted by Wingecarribee Shire Council in partnership with Moss Vale RSL sub-Branch as well as local organisations and individuals.

ArtExpress @ Ngununggula

ARTEXPRESS is an annual series of exhibitions of exemplary artworks created by New South Wales visual arts students for the Higher School Certificate examination. This national exhibition has exhibited over 3,000 students' works in the past ten years. It has become a much-anticipated event in Sydney's cultural calendar and continues to draw national and international acclaim. Ngununggula will present a series of artworks from all over New South Wales, with a number of local students from the Southern Highlands. The exhibition opens on 18th May and runs until 30th June, 2024 and the gallery is open seven days a week and entry is FREE.

Moss Vale Showground Market

This market is set in the grounds of the iconic Moss Vale Showground, a beautiful location with shady trees and an undercover area, and features many local artisans with handmade craft, jams, relishes, soaps, candles, giftware’s and art. There is live music and the miniature train rides run through market hours. Come down wander through the grounds and grab a coffee, freshly baked breads, street foods, pastries and fresh flowers. The Moss Vale Rotary are often there raising much needed funds via gold coin donation at the main gate and also operate their canteen with Devonshire teas and a BBQ. Market runs on the third Sunday of every month and kicks off at 9am.

Highlands Miniature Railway

Highlands Miniature Railway

The Highlands Miniature Railway runs in conjunction with the Moss Vale Showground Markets. The little ride-on trains will be running from 10am until about 2pm. The railway is situated in the far eastern corner of the showgrounds (the Robertson end). Signs will be out! Fully covered footwear is mandatory for all train passengers. Come along, bring the family and have a great time at the markets and with the model trains. The Highlands Miniature Railway is also looking for new members to run the trains and maintain the track! Retford Park Open Gardens

Retford Park was once the home of James Fairfax AC, who always believed that the estate should be preserved for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations. In 2016 Mr Fairfax gifted his historic home to the National Trust of Australia, and the estate (home and gardens) is currently open to the public Thursday to Sunday. Visitors can explore the grand Victorian homestead and the magnificent gardens. One of the best way to enjoy the gardens is to pack a picnic! A print exchange exhibition by 28 printmakers from Southern Printmakers Association and Southern Highlands Printmakers. The exhibition opens at 2pm on 25 May 2024 at BDAS Gallery (Bowral District Art society). Members of one group produce a print each and the other group members respond to those prints with prints of their own. Members will be present at the exhibition to explain the process.

Every month vintage car owners and enthusiasts in the Highlands gather to talk cars over coffee. They meet on the last Sunday at every month, 8am to 10am. Roll up and check out an array of classic, vintage, veteran, sports cars and much more. Due to a number of location changes, the group has been renamed from Bowral Cars & Coffee to Cars & Coffee Southern Highlands. This is a free community event with hot food, coffee and amenities available at Schmokin' in Berrima. On the fourth Tuesday of every month a group of local acoustic performers gather at the Venue in Bowral for a night of folk music and poetry. SHAPS are a native plant garden club with members from all walks of life, some with long experience of growing native plants and others with none. All are welcome. The Bowral Classic 2024

The Bowral Classic cycling event is returning for the 8th year to the Southern Highlands on the 19th and 20th of October. Since the inaugural event in 2016, the Bowral Classic has become a staple fixture in the cycling calendar. Now with three road cycling courses and The Crit to choose from, all showcasing the most beautiful scenery you can experience on two wheels, there is something for everybody. The Event Village at Loseby Park in Bowral will be filled with local bars, food trucks and exhibitor stalls.
