March Artist of the Month: Yakumama

Alright, buckle up!

This month on Highland FM 107.1, we’re hitting the gas with the hypnotic grooves of Yakumama; a band that doesn’t just play music, they channel it.

They’re blending Peruvian Chicha, psychedelic Cumbia, Afro beats and rock into a sound that’ll get you moving, whether you’re ready or not. Gritty guitars, heart pounding percussion and a vibe straight out of the Amazon… this is music that grabs you by the hips and doesn’t let go.

Yakumama, our 100% Home-Grown Artist of the Month – only on Highland FM 107.1

YAKUMAMA is a seven-piece Latin fusion band serving up a hypnotic mix of Peruvian Chicha, ‘60s Amazonian psychedelic Cumbia, Afro and rock. It’s deep, raw and straight up medicine for the soul.

Chicha was born in the ‘60s when Colombia’s traditional Cumbia collided with reverb drenched surf rock. Electric guitars, bass, organ solos and driving Latin percussion. Music from the streets, made for the people. Now after decades underground, Chicha is making a global comeback, with bands like Money Chicha, Xixa and Chicha Libre leading the charge.

Enter Yakumama, bringing their unique spin from the Southern Highlands; earthy, shamanic and impossible to sit still to. At the helm is Jorge Aparicio (aka ‘Fito’), a Peruvian music producer and songwriter on guitar and vocals, alongside Tania Doria, an Australian lyricist and vocalist with fire in her soul. With a killer lineup of musicians from all corners of the globe, they’re a band that’ll shake the ground beneath you.

Get ready, Yakumama is here to move you… literally!
