October Artist of the Month: Bronte Alva
Throughout October, Highland FM will feature Kiama based singer-songwriter Bronte Alva. From soft, vulnerable moments to gritty crescendos, her signature vocal tone remains a central element.
The rawness of Bronte’s music, combined with the stripped back instrumentation in her Old Binda Road recordings, invites listeners to fully experience the emotional weight of each track. With Loretta’s Max Jacobs on guitar, the sound becomes both introspective and expansive, drawing the audience in and making each song feel like a personal confession.
Bronte Alva has been writing songs since she was just 7, turning childhood moments, school crushes and the challenges of growing up into heartfelt lyrics. A demo of her early work caught the attention of South Coast band The Terrys, leading to the release of her debut single, ‘Eve’s Lips (Make Me Want to Cry)’ and a 10 date regional tour that introduced her music to audiences across the East Coast of Australia.
Since her debut in 2022, Bronte’s music has spanned a range of styles, from the cheeky confidence of her early track ‘Your Mum’ to the raw vulnerability of ‘I Hate Birthdays.’ No matter the theme, one thing ties her work together: its honesty. Bronte’s talent has earned her support from Triple J and Triple J Unearthed, as well as gigs opening for acts including WAAX, Telenova, Skegss, Go-Jo, The Grogans, The Smith Street Band, The Beddy Rays and more.
In 2024, Bronte entered a new chapter with her single ‘Hey…,’ blending edgy pop-rock with brutally honest lyrics about the challenges of adulthood and leaving behind the innocence of youth. The track received major playlist and radio support, further solidifying her place as a rising voice in the indie pop-rock scene.
Bronte’s unfiltered storytelling and energetic sound have made her a standout in the Australian indie landscape. For fans of Angie McMahon, The Buoys and WAAX, Highland FM’s 100% Home-Grown Artist of the Month, Bronte Alva is a name you’ll want to keep on your radar.
